Job description:
Food prep cooks/workers (food prep = food preparation) assist chefs and other kitchen staff by
preparing the ingredients used to create all dishes – entrees, sauces and side dishes. A prep
cook chops vegetables, herbs and other ingredients, trims and slices meats, and stirs sauces
and soups. They also portion and wrap food, assemble plates (such as salads), and clean
utensils and kitchen surfaces. Additionally, they store foods in designated containers and
storage areas. Participants will be standing for long periods of time in this position.
ware/silverware properly in the dishwasher and washing pots, dishes, etc. by using hand or
dish equipment. Dishwashers then restock all ware when clean. Additional duties include
removing garbage and recyclable materials from the kitchen area to appropriate receptacles
as well as sweeping and mopping. Dishwashers are responsible for maintaining a clean
workstation, assisting kitchen staff when required and assisting in overall kitchen cleanliness.
Dishwashers will come into contact with cleaning chemicals, and wear rubber gloves. This job
requires standing for most of the shift so employees should be in good physical condition to
stand for long periods of time. Comfortable, rubber soled shoes are required.
Wage: $8.50/per hour
Uniform: Participants wear their own clothing. Shoes must be closed toe.
Job Benefits (bonuses, incentives):
One free meal every shift. 25% off meals when not working. Pay increase might be available for hard workers in the season. Discretionary bonuses are given at times for participants with good performance. End of season bonus is available but only if the participants stay until the end of September after the business closes to help clean/close up the restaurant.
Housing:
Employer is providing small cabins for participants to stay in. There are 2 participants per cabin. Includes hot plate, small refrigerator, bathroom and a few dishes. Cost ranges from $475 – $550 per cabin, to be split between 2 people per month (private cabin would cost $550/month or less). The range of housing cost depends on the available cabin type. Each cabin residents purchase their own propane for heat. This ranges between $25–50 per cabin. Water and electricity are paid by employer. Utilities are not included: $25–50/month/per cabin for Propane. Water and Electricity are included. Housing is on walking distance (5min.). Is there wireless internet available? At the Chamber of Commerce office for free. Otherwise, participants can also purchase their own WiFi for $50–80/month through Century link.
Housing deposit: $100. Refundable if cabins are left clean and undamaged.
Info about the area:
Cooke City is a beautiful mountain town just outside of Yellowstone National park. In the summer time, the community includes only a few hundred people besides the visitors, so it is very small. The nearest large towns/cities are 2 1/2 hours away. However, because the town is just outside of the Yellowstone National Park, the town gets a large volume of visitors passing through daily.
What to bring?
Bring hiking shoes, a camera, and a desire to enjoy the outdoors. Participants should make sure to bring clothing for cool weather; even though it is the summer, the town is located in the mountains and gets cold at times.
Additional info: It is a very friendly place, so it is easy to make friends. There is a high number of residents from Czech Republic and Slovakia so it is a great location from participants from these countries.
